I’m still in that stage where I’m not sure if I prefer smooth to rougher coloring, but I start out with a base color layer below the line art, then work my darks and lights in from there. I usually work on one layer for the bulk of it; for the details I’ll add in layers on top. Although sometimes I use basic PS brushes, I’ve found a ton online, and a lot from my subscription to ImagineFX. :) Hope that helps! Any more questions, just ask away! :)
